<p>L&#8217;interès matemàtic d&#8217;aquest problema és que cal emprar una bona part del càlcul d&#8217;una variable de primer any d&#8217;universitat (valor absolut, identitats trigonomètriques, derivació, càlcul d&#8217;extrems absoluts,  regla de  L&#8217;Hôpital,  integració) , a més de sèries de Fourier. Des del punt de vista de l&#8217;enginyeria elèctrica, permet demostrar que un motor de corrent continu amb moltes espires es pot aproximar com un girador, que és com un transformador però creuant les variables: el parell mecànic és proporcional al corrent de rotor i el voltatge de rotor és proporcional a la velocitat angular.</p>
